Telecom revenue to reach Rs 800b in next 5 years

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for IT and Telecom Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan has said that the revenue of telecom sector will reach Rs 800 billion in next 5 years, while by year 2020 this revenue is expected to reach $4 billion.

Rehman while speaking at the Pakistan Mobile App Awards 2015 ceremony announced that Government would establish tele centre in different areas of the country especially in rural areas, and would start nine IT projects worth Rs 20 billion in Khayber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

Minister of State for IT and Telecom Anusha Rahman presented the awards to the winners.

In students’ category the first position was won by students of International Islamic University, Rabia Jabbar and Humna Shaheen for developing the pre-School Champs mobile application whereas the second position award was won by the student of Military College of Signals Waqas Ajmal and his team for developing the Catch the BUS mobile application. In professional category, first position was won by Hassan Baig and his team for developing the internet tutor app whereas second position in professional category was won by Dr. Hammad M. Cheema and his team for developing the OMNES app in the security domain.

A total of 100 applications were received which were later on scrutinised and evaluated by the PTA.

All submissions to the competition were subject to pre-defined criteria including uniqueness, value to public, functionalities, sustainability and quality of the mobile application under agriculture, entertainment, kids, security, community and business categories.
