Tevta offers 45 demand-driven courses

LAHORE: Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh Saturday said the Authority was offering 45 demand driven courses in its second phase of short courses.

“These courses are being offered to male and female youth at selected Tevta Institutes across the province,” adding the courses were being offered on the recommendations of relevant industry.

Talking to APP, Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said newly launched short courses were fashion designing, laundry man, machine embroidery, basic housekeeping, tablet manufacturing machine operator, capsule manufacturing machine operator, generator repair mechanic, waiter, electronically controlled engine diagnostic & tune-up, rice milling plant operator, tunnel farming, plumber, solar water heating installation & maintenance, steel fixer etc. Another 14 demand driven courses have already been started in first phase and these will also be included on the demand of concerned industry, he said.

He said Tevta was playing effective role in preparing skilled manpower and its programme fully reflect vision of Punjab government.

To a question, Irfan Qaiser said Punjab government had fixed a target of making two million youth skilful according to market needs during next three years. He said the government in collaboration with Tevta and Akhuwat was advancing Rs 75,000 interest-free loan each to 4,000 skilled youth. These loans, he said, were being offered only to skilled youth who completed their training. “The aim of this excellent programme is to provide honourable job to skilful youth,” he added. He said Tevta was playing an important role for preparing skilled manpower according to market needs and for the promotion of technical education.
