LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) is going to upgrade its curricula in consultation with private sector to produce manpower of international standard.
These views were expressed by TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday. Former LCCI President Shahid Hassan Sheikh, former Senior Vice President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad and EC members also spoke on the occasion.
The TEVTA chairman said that the TEVTA wanted to sign MoU with the LCCI and suggested to form a TEVTA-LCCI liaison committee. He also said that all TEVTA labs are being upgraded through extra funding.
The chairman, who brought with him entire TEVTA team, said that all efforts were being made to increase number of trainers in TEVTA institutes.
He said that trained manpower can play vibrant role to boost the national economy and growth of industry. TEVTA Punjab is a torch bearer with the mission to spread technical education and vocational training across the country and provide trained manpower to the local as well as international market. Industrialists, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and service providers are the back bone of the Pakistani economy.
Speaking on the occasion LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir said that LCCI and TEVTA are already making collective efforts to ensure the provision of skilled workforce to the local industry.
He said that collaboration between the two institutions ultimately bridge the Skill Gap which will lead to a quantum jump in the exports of the country, by value addition and responding to technological shift in the manufacturing & facing the challenges of Globalization.
He stressed the need for formulating policy for the promotion of demand driven technical education and vocational training in Punjab, under TEVTA.
He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry will extend maximum cooperation to the officials of TEVTA in conducting Training Need Assessments etc.
He urged the TEVTA Chief to involve LCCI while developing new courses and up-grading various syllabus.
He said that present setup of technical training is not addressing the requirements of modern industrialization taking place in the country.
He said that Pakistan is a country of more than 190 million people with a high percentage of youth along with fast growing industrial sector. But unfortunately both the sides are unable to accommodate each other. As the skills required by industry is lacking in young graduates thus resulting in high rate of unemployment.
He said that the industrial sector needs skilled manpower with knowledge and expertise to meet the challenges of present era. He said that the LCCI and Institutions like TEVTA must work out a comprehensive plan to identify the shortcomings in technical education.
The LCCI and TEVTA also agreed to expedite cooperation and coordination to ensure the provision of skilled manpower to the industry.
