LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) has unveiled the country’s first online Skilled Labour Market Information System (SLMIS) in Punjab.
Punjab Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this during a meeting at Tevta Secretariat. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi and others officials were also present on the occasion.
Irfan said that the facility of free registration is available for all the students of technical and vocational institutes, job seekers and employers on this web portal so that unemployed skilled youth may find suitable job opportunities. He added that this web portal will also provide information on employment and unemployment rates in different sectors of industry besides other useful economic data. At present, UK, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka are using labour market information systems. All these systems have been studied in the process of developing SLMIS by Punjab Tevta, he said.
The Tevta chairman further said that the SLMIS is being operated and maintained at Tevta Secretariat. The labour market information of the whole Punjab is consolidated at the Tevta secretariat in coordination with its district level offices. He said that the training of staff for running SLMIS has already been completed and operational instructions have been issued to field offices. Such initiatives by Tevta, he added, will help reduce unemployment in the fight against poverty and enable the skilled youth of Punjab to contribute towards socioeconomic development of the country.
The Tevta pass-outs can submit their particulars for SLMIS, which is also world’s sixth largest system. This information system is providing key information on Punjab’s labour market including market trends, skill training opportunities in different trades and technologies, data of passing out students and job seekers as well as vacancies for technical persons in the industry.
