Tevta’s garment training institute to be functional next month

LAHORE: All necessary arrangements are being finalised to establish a Garment Institute by Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) at Government Institute of Emerging Technologies, Township next month.

Turkish agency (TIKA) is providing technical assistance in the shape of latest expensive machinery and equipment for successful launch of the garment courses,” said TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh on Friday. He was addressing a meeting held here to review the progress on setting up the garment institute. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, Tevta Officers Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Aamir Aziz, Engr Azhar Iqbal Shad, Ayesha Qazi and others were also present on the occasion. Sheikh said that TIKA would provide machinery/equipment for garments, wet and dry processing labs during the month while waste water treatment plant will be set up by Tevta itself.

He said that garment related courses, including industrial stitching machine operator, denim washing expert and denim dry finishing expert short courses, would be offered after finalisation of arrangements. “1, 500 students will be trained in these courses annually,” he added.
