BANGKOK: Customs officials have seized more than seven million baht worth of illicit drugs, sex toys, sex stimulation medicines and old motorcycle frames sent to Thailand through parcel boxes and air freights at Suvarnabhumi international airport.
Mr Prayut Maneechote, director of Bangkok customs office, said all the contraband were seized after customs officials opened up several air freights and parcels sent from abroad through the airport.
The seized contraband include 671 kgs of Khat, a kind of leaves with addictive quality native to Africa and the Middle East.
Fresh Khat leaves contain cathinone substance, if consumed, can cause hallucination. It is popular among foreigners.
Possession of Khat for sale is liable to imprisonment from 5-20 years and a fine of between 100,000-400,000 baht or both and imprisonment from 1-5 years and/or a fine between 20,000-100,000 baht In possession of the drug for consumption.
