Thai FM to visit Moscow to boost trade ties

BANGKOK: Foreign Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn on Wednesday travelled to Moscow at the invitation of the Russian government to boost trade and political cooperation between the two countries.

During the six-day official visit, Tanasak will co-chair the Thai-Russian Joint Commission meeting with Russia’s Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.

The Thai minister will seek opportunities to expand Thai agricultural products in Russian markets and invite Russia to invest in industries of aircraft spare parts and cars in Thailand.

He will also meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss strengthening of the bilateral cooperation as well as preparing for the celebrations for the 120th anniversary of mutual diplomatic relations in 2017.

The trade volume of Thailand and Russia has reached US$5 billion and 1.5 million Russians visit Thailand each year.
