BANGKOK: A large quantity of fake brand-name sports clothing 2orth about 30 million baht was seized in raid on nine premises in Pathumwan and Bobae areas by Department of Special Investigation officials on Tuesday.
DSi chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang said officials from the Office of Intellectural Property Cases armed with court warrants searched five shops on Banthadthong road in Pathumwan district and at One@Bobae shopping centre on Damrongrak road in Pomprap Sattrupai district, and four storerooms, also at One@Bobae shopping centre.
The officials found 20,705 items of counterfeit sportswear for various football clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea with famous brandnames such as Nike, Adidas and Puma.
Two women, Pichayaporn Suenithipaisarn and Nathakan Suksawat, and two men, Kanchai Tiyapornmanee and Rungroj Amornchaisap, were arrested for having possession of counterfeit products with intent to sell.
Pol Col Paisit said Thailand has been put on the priority watch list by the office of the US Trade Representative for violation of intellectual property. It is the DSI’s responsibility to suppress trade in fake products in line with government policy.
