BANGKOK: Thailand’s exports dropped for the fifth consecutive month in May to around 18.4 billion U.S. dollars, registering a 5.01-percent decline year-on-year, the Ministry of Commerce said here the other day.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s exports revenue totaled 88.694 billion U.S. dollars, down 4.2 percent from the same period last year, director of the ministry’s Office of Trade Policy and Strategy Somkiat Trairatpan said.

In addition, imports plummeted by 19.97 percent in May to about 16 billion U.S. dollars, while the figure for the January-May period fell by 9.39 percent to 85.37 billion dollars, according to Somkiat.
Meanwhile, the commerce ministry has decided to maintain the export growth target for 2015 at 1.2 percent, as it was confident that the second half of this year would see better performance, he noted.
Thailand is still able to maintain its shares in such markets as the United States, China, Japan, India, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea, Somkiat said.
