BANGKOK: Thai chicken meat exports are valued at US$3.05 billion in 2017. The chicken products went mainly to Japan, Europe, the US and Brazil. However, producers have been facing rising feed costs, especially rising corn prices, in late 2017, while chicken prices declined in Thailand.
Mr Kukrit said Japan has been a major market for Thai chicken exports but Thailand faces is facing intense competition from Vietnam and China.
The strong baht has also affected competitiveness of Thai chicken exports. Thai chicken meat exports are expected to increase 2 per cent in volume terms in 2018.
