CHIANG MAI: A tribal woman who was a member of a major drug trafficking gang was caught and 200,000 speed pills seized from her in Chiang Dao district on Saturday morning, police said today.
Napaporn Sae Yia, 23, of Muser tribe in Chiang Dao district, was arrested on drug charges. Packs of speed pills she hid in a corn plantation in the border district and a motorcycle were seized.
Pol Lt Gen Thanitsak Theerasawat, chief of Provincial Police Region 5, said during a police press conference that the arrest followed information that a member of a Muser drug gang had smuggled the drugs into the country. A police informant posing as a drug buyer then contacted the woman to buy the drugs and this led to her arrest.
The woman was a member of a major drug trafficking gang led by a tribal man identified only as Jalapor, said the police region 5 chief.
