Under the decision, Thailand’s Department of Fisheries will stop licensing import of five categories of shrimps – Penaeus esculentus, Fenneropenaeus, Penoeus vannamei, Pernaeus monodon, and Penaeus stylirostris. Thailand is the second country that applied the ban of shrimp imports from India.

On November 29, Kuwait also imposed a ban on imports of fresh, chilled and frozen shrimps from India, citing suspected cases of diseases. The European Union is also considering a ban on Indian shrimps following testing of Indian shrimp consignments that found routinely high use of antibiotics in shrimp products from the Southern Asian nation.
