The Witcher 3, returning hero Geralt of Rivia faces beard that would ‘grow over time’

TOKYO: The Witcher 3, returning hero Geralt of Rivia had a beard that would “grow over time.” Players that prefer a clean-shaven look to their avatar can make regular trips to the barber.

Polish developer CD Projekt express views.

“The beard grows as time passes and when Geralt moves between locations. The beard has several ‘states’ and these states determine its length the longest is really long but it’s not Gandalf-long.”

And there’s good news for those who prefer swords and spells to scissors and soap.

“When you download the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC the growth of the beard will stop because we decided that when players want a predefined look, it would be weird to require from them to reapply it time after time.”

The development makes good on a concept once expected in 2004’s Fable. Like The Witcher 3, it arrived not long after the launch of a new console generation, but limitations meant that some of its publicised grander designs had to be dropped.

More recent titles such as Deadly Premonition and Grand Theft Auto V have successfully integrated hairstyling options but in dramatically different ways.

In the decidedly weird murder mystery Deadly Premonition, players would have to make sure that protagonist York did not get too hungry or tired, less his health start deteriorating.
