Peter Gell, Head of Regulatory Services at Peterborough City Council, said: “The illicit tobacco market costs the UK around £2 billion in lost revenues.

“This latest seizure in Peterborough involved suspected illicit and counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco, totalling 6,730 cigarettes and 1.5kg of tobacco.

“Selling illegal tobacco is a crime which also impacts on those businesses that are trading legally, and we will continue to put a stop to illegal and counterfeit tobacco being supplied and sold here in Peterborough.

“I would encourage anyone with information about the illegal sale of tobacco to email [email protected] or call 01733 747474.”
