BRENT: The Mystic Aquarium is working with government wildlife authorities to track down the three Beluga whales that were spotted in Narragansett Bay off Warwick earlier this month. The aquarium officials said they wanted to ensure’ the errant whales for their safety.
Now they have made their way south to Long Island Sound in Fairfield. The Mystic Aquarium is working with federal and local authorities in order to track them down for their safety.
Stranded animals are fed and cared at the Mystic Aquarium under aquarium’s Animal Rescue Program. The aquarium officials have been tracking the Beluga whales since they were sighted in
The whales were sighted in Long Island Sound two days ago. Janelle Schuh, the Stranding Coordinator, is warning the public that while the whales are cute, people should stay away.
Although scientists think they may have been coming down from Canada for food, this is not their natural habitat. Therefore, Schuh is asking boaters to watch for the animals.
She said the propeller should be turned away if people see them coming to their boat. She is requesting that the observers should not follow the animals as that can cause stress.
