HELSINKI: In January-June 2017, the Port of HaminaKotka (Finland) handled 7.12 million ton of cargo (+4.7%, year-on-year). According to the port authorities, transshipment of export cargo climbed by 6.9% to 5.35 million ton including 1.36 million ton of paper (-1%), 788,100 t of cellulose (+3.6%), 1.08 million ton of liquid bulk cargo (-1.2%) and 741,510 t of dry bulk cargo (+37.5%).
Transshipment of import cargo fell by 1.3% to 1.76 million ton including 563,700 t of general cargo (+6.2%), 299,490 t of dry bulk cargo (+19.3%) and 516,400 t of liquid bulk cargo (-10%).
Transshipment of transit cargo grew by 10.5% to 1.78 million ton, inland traffic dropped by 20.1% to 410,160 t.
Transshipment of containers climbed by 6% to 344,560 TEUs, transshipment of automobiles plunged by 51% to 2,586 units.
The number of calls declined by 3.2% to 1,251 calls.
The Port of Kotka is some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from St. Petersburg and 1,000 km from Moscow. Port of Kotka comprises ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, berth Puolanlaituri (Polish berth), berth Halla, and also port premises Sunila. Port of Hamina is the eastern port of Finland located 35 km from the Russian border. In 2016, the port handled 13.4 million ton of cargo.
