To avert 100,000 death annually, governor vows water filtration plant in every school

FAISALABAD: More than 100,000 children die every year of water-borne diseases caused by drinking of unhygienic and contaminated water.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said this at the inauguration of a Water Filtration Plant at University of Faisalabad.

The governor revealed that local philanthropists and overseas Pakistanis had donated 150 Water Filtration Plants so far which were being installed in various areas across the province. He said that hectic efforts were being made to get donation for more water filtration plants to be installed in each and every school and college of the province to supply purified filtered water to students.

He said that filtered drinking water was not available in the province hence the diarrhoea and other abdominal diseases were on increase. He added that due to paucity of funds and financial crunch, the government was not in a position to invest huge amount on the purchase and installation of the water filtration, hence it was essential that the private sector and effluent business tycoon should come forward and generously donate for this noble and public welfare task.

The governor said that history always remembered those philanthropists who actively participate in the welfare of the masses and general public and play a vital role in welfare projects aimed at ameliorating lot of the down-trodden masses.

He appreciated Madina Foundation Chairman Mian Muhammad Hanif for taking active part in the welfare projects and added that other industrialists should pursuit the gesture by extending monetary help to poor segments of the society.

He asked the people to wage a “Jehad” against corruption to put the country on the path of prosperity.

On the occasion, DCO Noorul Amin Mangal informed the Governor that the local philanthropists had donated 8 ventilators, 3 incubators and 3 warming machines for the hospital.
