TOKYO: Tokyo stocks rose in early trading Friday as investor sentiment was boosted by gains in European and U.S. stocks overnight.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 88.91 points, or 0.49 percent, from Thursday to 18,230.08. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 16.04 points, or 1.08 percent, to 1,497.44.
