TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened 0.23 per cent higher on Friday following rallies on Wall Street and a weak yen.
The Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 30.96 points to 20,631.08 by the break, while the Topix index of all first-section shares edged down 0.04%, or 0.61 points, to 1,660.22.
Traders are moving into the dollar after Federal Reserve chief Janet Yellen said she expects rates to rise by the year’s end as the world’s top economy gets back on track. Buying sentiment has also been perked up by easing fears about the Greek debt crisis and the rout on Chinese stock markets.
