TOKYO: Tokyo shares have closed 1.32 per cent lower as the yen strengthened and an ex-dividend issue affecting Topix-listed firms weighed on sentiment.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index shed 235.40 points to end at 17,645.11.
The broader Topix index of all first-section shares was down 1.04 per cent, or 15.14 points, at 1,438.67.
A number of Japanese economic indicators are expected this week, including jobs data, industrial production and corporate sentiment figures.
