TOKYO: Tokyo stocks have closed 1.67 per cent higher, buoyed by a weaker yen and as a rally on Wall Street driven by powerful US monetary data.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed 281.77 points higher at 17,167.10 on Thursday, while the Topix index of all first-section shares climbed 1.31 per cent, or 17.87 points, to 1,377.67.
