TOKYO: Tokyo stocks gave up early gains to close 0.25 per cent lower on Wednesday, as the yen soared after the head of the central bank said a further decline in the currency was “unlikely”.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 49.94 points to close at 20,046.36, while the Topix index of all first-section shares fell 0.38 per cent, or 6.14 points, to 1,628.23.
