TOKYO: Tokyo stocks fell on Friday morning as investor sentiment was dampened by declines in European and U.S. stocks overnight and the yen’s strength against the U.S. dollar amid concerns for the global economic growth outlook.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 174.75 points, or 0.89 percent, from Thursday to end the morning at 19,523.02. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 13.06 points, or 0.82 percent, at 1,580.51.
