TOKYO: Tokyo stocks edged down Thursday morning, erasing gains from earlier in the morning, as better-than-expected Japanese industrial output data largely dispelled earlier expectations that the Bank of Japan is poised to further ease monetary policy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 17.18 points, or 0.09 percent, from Wednesday to end the morning at 18,885.84. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 3.15 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,544.04.
