TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday, weighed down by selling aimed at locking in profits following recent rallies, while attention was focused on China’s gross domestic product data for the July-September quarter due out later in the day.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 29.50 points, or 0.16 percent, from Friday to 18,262.30. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 5.20 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,500.64.
