TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as overnight declines in U.S. stocks hurt market sentiment, prompting investors to lock in gains after the Nikkei index’s surge to a six-week high the previous day.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 30.58 points, or 0.16 percent, from Wednesday to 18,523.70. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 4.15 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,522.66.
