TOKYO: Tokyo stocks fell Wednesday morning as risk appetite was sapped by heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East following Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighter jet the previous day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 102.74 points, or 0.52 percent, from Tuesday to end the morning at 19,822.15. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 11.63 points, or 0.72 percent, at 1,594.31.
Decliners were led by securities, banking and financing business issues.
