TOKYO: Tokyo stocks have opened 0.93 per cent higher following a positive lead from Wall Street.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 179.83 points to 19,425.89 at the start on Tuesday.
US stocks surged higher on Monday as the US dollar retreated and the market looked ahead to a Federal Reserve policy decision in the next two days.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average shot up 1.29 per cent while the broad-based S&P 500 jumped 1.35 per cent.
The US dollar’s recent gains have raised worries about the drag on US multinationals, but the greenback fell on Monday after tepid US data left the market cautious ahead of a Federal Reserve monetary policy decision this week.
