EALING: The Entertainment Retailer’s Association (ERA) has this week broadcast the top 20 best selling video games, movies, and albums of 2014 in the UK, and what a year it was. It seems FIFA 15 was in fact the best selling video game of last year, but it doesn’t enough top the sales of Disney’s Frozen – though there’s no surprises there.
According to the ERA, Disney’s Frozen topped the entire list selling a whopping 4.012 million copies last year, which is 1.34 million ahead of its nearest rival, FIFA 15. According to the results, FIFA 15 sold an impressive 2.663 million copies putting it firmly in the place of the UK’s biggest video game – ever. That’s one place ahead of last years Christmas number one, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which sits in third place selling 1.837 million units.
In total there are five video games in the top 20 charts, with Grand Theft Auto landing in sixth place and earning its second year in the charts, selling around 1.34 million copies, then there’s two new IP’s, Destiny at fourteen with 937,253 copies, and Watch Dogs at eighteen with808,799 units sold.
Of course, this is based on physical copies sold at retailers and not digital downloads which would likely drive the numbers even higher as more people, not just gamers, choosing to download more movies, albums, and games, digitally.
