Torkham Customs foils attempt to smuggle weapons into Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The Customs staff deputed at Torkham border has thwarted an attempt of weapons smuggling from Afghanistan into Pakistan in a truck.

The sources informed Customs Today that a truck bearing no: nr/6785 carrying fresh vegetables was checked on arrival at Torkham Gate.

Weapons including AK 47, pistols, short guns, repeater guns along other modern guns which ware hidden in the truck, which was caught by customs staff at Torkham Gate. The driver of the truck was also arrested.

The customs staff has also impounded the truck and registered FIR against the accused driver.

The weapons were hidden beneath shopper bags of vegetables which were to be imported from Afghanistan to Pakistan but timely action of customs staff helped save hundreds of lives which might be lost due to use of these weapons in terrorism.

The deputy collector Torkham Customs station appraised that by strict action of Collector Customs Muhammad Saeed Jadoon, it has been become easier to trace the wrongdoers.

While the officials in Customs House Peshawar confirmed that weapons worth millions of are being seized at Torkham border annually.

The Customs staff performed duty at one of deadliest borders of the world where international wars had been fought. Due to war in Afghanistan, the border always remained hot spot for the smugglers of weapons and terrorists to carry out activities in the region.

Due to well-equipped customs staff at Torkham border, it has been never become easy for the smugglers to cross the border into Pakistan, the officials affirmed.
