TORKHAM: The Torkham Customs have thwarted an attempt of smuggling of more than 2500 mobile phones from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
The Customs authorities told Customs Today on 8.9.2018 that a tip up was given by Assistant Collector Sajid Momand to customs stuff about the activity of smuggling of mobile phones across the border. The assistant collector constituted team under the supervision of Superintendent Peer Izhar.
The superintendent informed that a truck bearing no KAB1125 was loaded with vegetables appeared on the Torkham Gate. When the truck was intercepted and checked thoroughly it was found that the truck also contain mobile phones which were tactfully hidden in tomato crates.
When the truck was check it was found that it contain mobile phones more than 2500, 3000 mobile chargers, 4030 mobile batteries, 3590 hand free for mobile sets. Customs team asked the driver to produce any legal documents regarding transportation of these goods but he remained failed. The customs team arrested the driver and filed case against him under Customs Acts of 1969.
Assistant Collector Sajjid Momand lauded the activity of customs staff and directed to thoroughly check the goods transports coming from Afghanistan to Pakistan and the checking should be made more restricted.
Sajjid Momand further said that upon the direction of Collector Customs MCC Peshawar the anti-smuggling drive has been initiated and no effort will be spared to mend the ways of smugglers.
