Torkham customs seizes 155 bags of ammonium nitrate

PESHAWAR: The Export section of Pakistan Customs at Torkham Border seized calcium ammonium nitrate from a truck loaded with vegetables on the way to Pakistan on Wednesday at Khyber Agency.

The smuggling of drugs and banned items has been greatly discouraged after strict action given by Collector Customs Mohammed Saeed Jadoon to customs officers.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs received secret information about the presence of 155 bags of contraband item urea in the truck bearing registration no KBL 1572 upon which the Additional Collector Torkham Customs Station Zia Ullah Shams constituted team under the supervision of Miss Sadaf Ali Shah, Assistant Collector Torkham Customs Station. The total weight of the seizure has been 8,250 kg worth Rs3,000 to Rs4,000 per bag.

The Customs staff posted at Torkham Border arrested the truck driver Shamsur Rehman who hails from Afghanistan and have registered FIR against him under Customs Acts of 1969.

Meanwhile, customs team at Torkham Border also recovered 171 kilogram hashish of fine quality from a Truck on Wednesday at Torkham Border.

The truck bearing number C- 9643 Nangarhar was intercepted by customs team during routine checkup.  Upon checking hashish was recovered from hidden section of the truck upon which the driver Salih Khan was arrested and a case was filed against him for smuggling of drugs into Pakistan.

This seizure was done by Customs staff after getting secret information from sources which was made possible by timely sharing of information by the high ups of customs department with customs police on ground.
