ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate’s Customs staff on Torkham border foiled the smuggling attempt of imported mobiles into Pakistan from Afghanistan valued Rs1.3million.
According to details, Inspector Naeem Khan, talking to Customs Today, said the customs staff deputed on Torkham border (Afghan Border) was doing its routine checking when they stopped a trailer. During a search, they found a huge quantity of foreign origin mobiles in the trailer.
He said at least 611 mobile-phones were concealed in the spare-tyres (Stepney). He added that the driver was arrested, vehicle impounded and the smuggled mobile-sets were confiscated.
He said it was a record seizure by the customs staff on Torkham border during this month. He further said the customs staff seized miscellaneous goods and narcotics during January valued Rs223million.
The customs has also lodged an FIR against an Afghan smuggler according to the Customs Act-969.
