Torkham Customs seizes foreign currency arrested two persons

PESHAWAR: The Torkham Customs Station seized foreign currency of amounting to Rs14 million during routine body checking at the Torkham border by Pakistan Customs officials.

Sources told Customs Today that the Customs staff of Torkham foiled attempt to smuggle amount of Rs0.5 million foreign currency to Afghanistan and arrested two accused who were later identified Shamel Shinwari and Jaidadullah Shinwari for criminal proceedings under the provisions of Customs Act 1969 at Torkham in Khyber Agency.

The seized foreign currency includes, 3,00,000 Saudi riyals were recovered from Shamel Shinwari, 10,00,000 lac Saudi riyals and 1,00,000 UAE dirhams were recovered from Jaidadullah during body search of both the accused while leading to Afghanistan.

Customs checking of the outgoing and incoming passengers and vehicles has been tightened on the directions of Collector Customs Qurban Ali Khan and Additional Collector Customs Peshawar under the supervision of DC Torkham leading to seizure cases of contraband goods i.e currency, gold, narcotics, fertilizers etc worth billions of rupees.

The seizure cases are marked to be unprecedented in the history of Customs Station Torkham due to wide range of trade with Afghanistan. The accused have been shifted for interrogation while FIR would be launched under the Customs Act I969.
