Torkham Customs Station seizes 30,000 Euros from Afghan national

PESHAWAR: The customs staff of the Torkham Customs Station on Sunday recovered an amount of 30,000 Euros, equal to Rs3.7million, from an Afghan national at the departure scanner/room. Investigation is underway from the accused.

This was stated by Collector Customs Gul Rahman while talking with Customs Today on Monday at the Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar.

Collector Customs Gul Rahman further said that the Torkham Customs Station has been under the limelight for its anti-smuggling activities. Earlier, the Customs Department has initiated a drive to curb the smuggling from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The Collector Customs further said that earlier an amount of 20,000 Saudi Riyals were also seized by the customs staff posted on the Torkham border for which efforts of the Customs Department should also be lauded.

The customs squad posted at Torkham Gate on daily basis recovers currencies of millions due to heavy trade activities on both sides of the Torkham border. There have been various currency exchange shops on both sides of the Torkham border due to which tackling smuggling of currencies has become a serious problem for the Customs Department.

The sources informed Customs Today that smuggling of NDP spare-parts of vehicles has also been causing the national treasury a great loss for which special initiatives have been taken by the Customs House Peshawar.
