Torkham Customs thwarts attempt to smuggle heroin worth Rs100m from Afghanistan

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs team deployed at Customs Station Torkham foiled an attempt to to smuggle heroin from Afghanistan in a trailer loaded with sulphur.

Sources told that Collector Muhammad Saleem received credible information about smuggling of narcotics from Afghanistan into Pakistan. He altered Customs team Torkham to enhance vigilance on suspected vehicles.

The customs team intercepted a trailer which was coming from Afghanistan side. On suspicion the doors of vehicle were thoroughly searched which led to recovery of 10.34 Kg fine quality white Herione Powder found stuffed in 10 packages and smartly concealed in the doors of driver’s cabin.

Accordingly, the consignment along with narcotics (Heroin) have been seized and driver is arrested for criminal prosecution under relevant laws.

It is worth mentioning that the estimated market value of seized Heroin Powder is around Rs100 million. Moreover, this seizure of narcotics is one of the unique cases in terms of quantity recovered due to the sole efforts and expertise of Customs staff deployed at Torkham.
