PESHAWAR: The customs clearance of goods was stopped between Pakistan and Afghanistan due to a protest held by All Torkham Customs Clearing Agents on Tuesday.
The customs clearance was ceased due to implementation of the WebOC registration which is necessary for vehicles to cross the border for trade purposes.
Earlier, the Customs Department has said that no registration of vehicles will be carried out without the online WebOC system against which the Customs Clearing Agents have announced the protest for lacking the required facilities.
Due to strike, hundreds of loaded trucks remained stranded on both sides of the Torkham Border which is causing the national exchequer a loss of millions of rupees.
The Customs Department at Torkham Customs Station has announced that no vehicle will be allowed to pass the Torkham border without the online WebOC registration with the system developed by the Federal Board of Revenue.
President of All Customs Clearing Agents Hayat Ullah Shinwari said the protest will continue unless their demands are met. The customs officials informed Customs Today that earlier a deal was clinched with All Torkham Customs Agents in which they had agreed on the option to carry out registration of vehicles with WebOC service which has been newly introduced by the FBR.
The customs officials added that introduction of the WebOC service for registration of vehicles loaded with containers along the Torkham Border is to minimize the leakage of duties and taxes.
