Toxic liquor: Excise Minister suspends 2 directors, 4 DCs over deaths

The Sindh Provincial Minister of Excise and Taxation Gayan Chand suspended two directors and four deputy directors in his department after 29 deaths due to toxic liquor drinking in Karachi.

The minister also cancelled the licenses of vendors involved as six more people died today.

As per details, until Wednesday about 23 people died after consuming homemade liquor (Kachi shrab) and others were admitted to Jinnah Hospital Karachi. The Medical Superintendent Seemi Jamali has said that 26 patients are still in critical condition.

The sources told Customs Today that the DIGP East, Munir Ahmad Shaikh has suspended five station house officers (SHOs) and SIO Korangi for failing in the case of death caused due to toxic liquor.

They also said that majority of the deceased belonged slums localities of Karachi, namely Malir, Landhi and Azizabad.
