Toyota announces range of subtle updates for its GT86 sports coupe

TOKYO: Toyota’s sporty coupe receives another price drop and renovation for 2016 model year, bringing it to £22,195. Toyota has announced a range of subtle updates for its GT86 sports coupe. The Subaru BRZ sibling gets a new colour pallete, smarter wheel designs and trim level changes. The price has also been reduced by £805 for a limited time, down to £22,195.

It’s not the first time Toyota has slashed the price of its only rear-wheel drive model. In October 2014 it was announced that a new ‘Primo’ model would be introduced to bring the entry cost down to £23,000, but a £300 price reduction brings that down, and a further customer offer of £505 off is put in place.

The new price drop is primarily thanks to new alloys, which drop down in size to 16 inches. Prices for the rest of the range are unchanged, but the top-spec GT86 Aero can now be had with gloss black 18-inch wheels, and a new ‘Hot Orange’ paint scheme.

It also loses the automatic transmission option, which confusingly is now only offered on the mid-spec Giallo trim. The only other change is the 197bhp engine, which is now Euro 6 emissions compliant with unchanged stats of 36.2mpg and 181g/km.

The revised GT86 range is available to order now, with customer deliveries set for mid-July.
