TOKYO: Toyota Motors has disclosed that it is recalling 112,500 due to defective electric power-steering controls and electric-vehicle software.

The affected cars include 110,000 Camry Hybrid, 2015 Camry, Highlander, Hybrid Highlander, and RAV4 manufactured from 2014 to 2015.

Toyota stated in a recall notice that there is a likelihood that a circuit board situated in the electric power-steering controls was damaged at some point during the manufacturing process. The power-steering of the vehicles may not function well and this will lead to drivers to exert more force when steering and this increases the risk of crashing.

If in case the problem takes place, a “Check EV System” message will show up and at the same time the malfunction indicator lamp will switch on.

Sales-wise Camry is the Toyota’s top performing model in the United States and ranked as the third top selling model according to the figures whipped up by Toyota.

The recall also includes an estimated 2,500 units of 2012-2014 RAV4 EV. These automobiles were subject to recalls since some of the faulty electronic components in the Electric Vehicle Traction Motor Assembly may “cause the vehicle to shift to ‘neutral’ due to a software issue,” Toyota stated in its recall notice.

Dealers are summoned to inspect all the affected vehicles and provide necessary means to fix the problems without charging the owners. The notice added that so far there are still no cases of crashes or injuries that have been reported to Toyota that are connected with the raised issues.

Owners of the vehicles who detected some problems with the affected models are advised to get in touch with their respective dealers as soon as possible in case that they are not yet informed about the recall notice.
