Trade between Pakistan, Afghanistan to be increased to $5b from $2.5b

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to enhance bilateral trade to $5 billion with next two to three years from current $2.5 billion.

Afghan Finance Minister Hazrat Omer Zakhilwal has called on his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar and discussed the trade and bilateral ties between the two countries. Dar said that Pakistan would complete a 100-bed Naeb Aminullah Khan Hospital at Logar, hostel for 100 students at Rehman Baba School and a 200-bed Jinnah Hospital at Kabul in the near future.

Later, the Afghan finance minister was briefed on projects related to energy, road and rail links.

It is pertinent to mention that the meeting between the both finance ministers was held whtn Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has arrived Pakistan to hold talks on bilateral relations and regional security with the Pakistani officials.

President Ghani’s visit marks renewed effort by the two neighbours to warm up their relations which have witnessed ups and downs during the recent years.
