Transit Trade DG Javed Ghani reviews customs preparation about CPEC

KARACHI: Directorate General of Transit Trade has arranged a high level meeting to review overall situation of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in which the preparedness and homework of the Pakistan Customs was briefly discussed.

Director General Muhammad Javed Ghani headed the meeting during which a draft was asked to be finalized regarding the customs officers, their deputations, check posts and overall progress. The draft will be submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Federal Interior Ministry.

The meeting is continuation of the series of meetings held last week in the headquarters of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). In the light of the said development Muhammad Javed Ghani chaired meeting, Director Wajid Ali, Additional Director Fazal Dad, Deputy Director Mona Baloch, Deputy Director Shoaib Ahmed and other attended the meeting.

The attendant of the meeting reviewed the progress of the CPEC with regards to customs. The need of intelligence sharing between Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and security measures were also emphasized in the meeting by the officers to curb anti-state activities.

According to the source, during the current week Directorate General of Transit Trade will be visiting Islamabad to finalize the draft. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a collection of projects currently under construction at a cost of $46 billion which is intended to rapidly expand and upgrade Pakistani infrastructure, as well as deepen and broaden economic links between Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China.
