Value of pilfered consignment stands at $3 million
KARACHI: The Directorate General of Transit Trade, Karachi, in pursuance of credible information, has detected an enormous case pertaining to pilferage of non-defence consignment comprising 21 containers belonging to the NATO forces.
The consignment, comprising two lots was declared to contain 18 large generator sets with containerized box and accessories, was imported from Afghanistan through Torkham for onwards transit to Dubai, UAE through Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT), Karachi Port.
The goods declarations were filed by clearing agents Ghani International, Bara Market, Peshawar and Peerzada International, Karachi for the clearance of the subject consignment.
The consignment was detained by the directorate on credible information received by the Director Transit Trade, Wajid Ali who passed on the information to his team led by Deputy Director Shoaib.
Later, the consignment was put on hold the other day and on Thursday, the consignment was physically examined at PICT by the staff of Directorate of Transit Trade, Karachi, which revealed that the generators’ sets had been removed from all the containers, prima-facie en-route Torkham to Karachi Port, probably with the connivance of bonded carrier Port Connection and Contractor Multi Trans International, Karachi.
The declared value of the pilfered consignment is around $3 million.
Further investigation in the case is being conducted and a First Information Report (FIR) is likely to be lodged soon by customs.
