Tribunal chairman proceeded cases for four days besides doing admin tasks

ISLAMABAD: Customs Appellate Tribunal Chairman Justice (r) Malik Manzoor Hussain concluded his four-day visit to tribunal’s headquarters on Thursday.

The chairman had resumed the hearing of cases on Monday and continued it till Thursday. He headed tribunal’s proceedings for four days at Islamabad where he heard cases besides performing some of important administrative tasks. He heard cases on single and division benches during his stay.

The chairman had reserved the decisions on several cases while adjourned hearing on many others while hearing cases as single bench and on a division bench along with member Ziauddin Wazir.

Chairman Justice (r) Manzoor Hussain and Ziaudding Wazir reserved decisions on cases filed by M/s Trade Master, M/s Waseem Autos, M/s Nisar Traders, M/s Parts and Parts, M/s Chief Autos, M/s Aman Elahi and M/s Kohinoor Traders.

M/s Trade Master had filed the case against MCC only. All of other appellants had filed cases against DGI&I. M/s Kohinoor Traders had filed two cases against DGI&I Islamabad.

The tribunal had also reserved the decision on M/s Wahid Hamid the day before yesterday. It had filed a case against the MCC Peshawar for auctioning imported items despite the tribunal had announced a decision for handing over the items to them.

Chairman Justice (R) Malik Manzoor Hussain also held hearing on cases filed against Directorate General of Investigation and Intelligence Islamabad and Model Collectorate of Customs Islamabad and Peshawar. M/s Pakistan Royal Group, M/s Irfanullah and M/s Charisma Catering Islamabad had filed these cases. The appellants had filed cases challenging the announcements made by the DGI&I Islamabad. All three cases were filed in 2016.

M/s Pakistan Royal Group and M/s Charisma Catering Islamabad had asked the tribunal to direct the department to hand over the imported items to them which were allegedly confiscated by the customs authorities on the charge of smuggling.

The chairman adjourned the hearing on cases involving Model Collectorate of Customs and Directorate General of Investigation and Intelligence Islamabad.

These cases were filed by M/s Waseem Autos, M/s Nisar Traders, M/s Parts & Parts, M/s Chief Autos, M/s Aman Elahi, M/s Kohinoor Traders, M/s Saleem Silk Centre, M/s Five Star Trading, M/s Pakistan Royal Group and M/s Nayatel Private Limited, M/s Degicell & others, M/s Kohinoor Chemical, Mirza Muhammad Majid, M/s Fazal Razaq, M/s Fazal-ur-Rehman and Gul Rehman & others.

The appellants had filed the cases against the Directorate General of Investigation and Intelligence Islamabad and Model Collectorate of Customs Islamabad.
