Truck loaded with Indian pineapples impounded by ASO Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Islamabad took into possession the Indian origin pineapples along with an offending vehicle from the Motorway toll plaza Islamabad. The worth of the impounded goods and vehicle are estimated at Rs1.5million.

According to details given by Majid Hussain Gadd, Assistant Collector, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad, that, on a tip-off, Saeed Khan Jadoon, Collector Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad, ordered the ASO Islamabad to set up a picket at the Motorway Intersection which intercepted an offending vehicle bearing registration No: X-7430 loaded with Indian origin pineapples.
The Assistant Collector told CT that, after the interception of offending vehicle and completion of a search operation, the ASO staff asked the possessors of foreign origin pineapples to provide the Goods Declaration (GD) along with other relevant documents in support of the legal export, but they failed to do so.
The ASO staff took into possession the huge quantity of smuggling pineapples along with the offending vehicle (vehicle used for carrying smuggling goods) and shifted them to a State Warehouse (SWH). The ASO has registered an FIR against possessors of the smuggling goods and forwarded the case to the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) Department for further action.
The seized item was being transported from Kashmir towards Charsada (KP). The value of the confiscated pineapples was estimated at Rs0.5million while the value of offending vehicle was appraised at Rs1.00 million.
The ASO staff, which took part in said seizure, comprised of Inspector Asif Mehmood, Superintendent Abdul Maalik and the customs staff of the Class IV.
