NORFOLK: A group representing trucking companies has told the Virginia Port Authority it will oppose a container-terminal appointment system.
An appointment system is planned for Norfolk International Terminals to help reduce the amount of time truck drivers have to wait to pick up and drop off their cargo.
The Virginian-Pilot reports the Tidewater Motor Truck Association doesn’t want an appointment system until it consistently takes less than 70 minutes to get in and out of terminals.
The group sent a letter Tuesday to the authority’s growth and operations committee.
A voluntary appointment system is already in place at Virginia International Gateway in Portsmouth.
