Turkey energy regulation organization seeks electricity import from Iran

ANKARA: Turkey energy regulation organization has lodged request with Iranian Ministry of Energy to import electricity from Iran.

IRNA Economic Desk said that Iran has set up high voltage electricity transfer line at two border points with Turkey, one from Iran’s Bazargan City to Turkey’s Duqqu Bayazid City and the other one from Iran’s Khoy City to Turkey’s Bash Qala City.

The Khoy-Bash Qala line can transfer 80 megawatts and the Khoy-Bash Qala in Van province which formerly transferred 170 megawatts can now transfer more than 400 megawatts, which equals 3.5 billion kilowatt hours of energy annually.

Turkey imported some 850 million kilowatts hours of electricity from Iran last year.

IRNA reporter in Ankara said that Turkish Energy Regulation Organization issued a press release on Monday saying that the companies that have the required permits for international trade of electricity can till March 9th present their requests for importing electricity from Iran.Iran has exported 9,993 gigawatt-hours to its neighbors since March
