ISTANBUL: The Turkish government announced on Wednesday that it has discovered a deposit of about 100 tons of gold in the west of the country, an amount equivalent to 14 percent of the proven reserves of the Eurasian country.
This new site could bring revenues of $2.5 billion for the country, Energy and Resources Minister Ali Riza Alaboyun said, as quoted by Sabah newspaper.
Turkey had local reserves of 700 tons of gold.
The discovery is located near the mining town of Soma in the western province of Manisa, known for its exploitation of lignite and the tragedy that killed 301 people in a mine of this mineral in May 2014.
