ANKARA: Turkey imported 2.76 million mt of bituminous thermal coal in March, rising 29.5% year on year and also climbing 10.8% from February to a three-month high, according to data from the Turkish statistical Institute (TUIK) published Friday.
During the first quarter of the year, Turkey received 7.51 million mt of thermal coal, up 13.2% from Q1 2015. Colombia remained Turkey’s largest supplier of thermal coal in March, delivering 1.13 million mt, climbing 76% on the year, but slipping 14% from February’s four-month high.
Russia was the second most popular origin of thermal coal for Turkey, shipping 900,410 mt of material during the month, rising 25% on the year and up 5% from February’s five-month low, the TUIK data showed.
