ANKARA: Turkey’s foreign trade gap widened in February from a year ago, as exports fell and imports rose, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Friday.
The trade deficit rose to $3.7 billion in February from $3.2 billion in the corresponding month last year. That was in line with economists’ expectations. Exports fell 1.9 percent year-over-year in February, while imports climbed by 1.6 percent. Shipments to EU counties declined 3.2 percent over the year and the main partner country for exports was Germany. On a monthly basis, seasonally and calendar-adjusted exports and imports grew by 1.8 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively in February.
